How Chiropractic Can Address Constipation in Kids

Baby adjustment on spineAs any mother knows, children may have constipation issues at any stage of their lives. When it’s an infant, the challenges become more difficult. Dr. Berven has dealt with many infants and children over her years of practice with this problem. One recent patient comes to mind.

Our Patient

This mother brought her 7-month-old daughter to our practice, complaining of persistent constipation and, as a result, an inability to sleep at night. The child presented as otherwise healthy.

Dr. Berven performed an assessment of the child to determine where the issue might be. After examination, she found three spinal misalignments, which directly affected the baby’s colon. She applied the appropriate adjustment to the spine, gently moving the vertebrae back into place.

After just one adjustment, the mother reported the baby started pooping right away, and has continued to have regular movements since. In addition, she is now sleeping through the night without issue. No further care has been necessary.

Getting Results

Chiropractic has had great success dealing with digestive issues, such as constipation. For the most part, results like these are normal, however, there can be other underlying issues causing complications. The level of exposure to environmental toxins in our daily lives has greatly increased, adding other factors which must be considered when providing care to children.

Nutritional deficiencies are one of the main problems Dr. Berven sees these days. She has made it a point to discuss the importance of proper nutrition with her patients. Working cooperatively with other practitioners may also prove beneficial.
